After the release of Ni No Kuni for the ps3 earlier this year; it left me wanting more great RPG's by level 5. Well my wish came true and they recently showed gameplay for a new game called 'Youkai Watch'; which will be available in Japan on 11th July.
The original trailer for the game; giving a brief hint at the story was shown back in October 2011, however we are now getting to see more gameplay.
The game seems to focus around this young boy named Keita; he finds a special watch that allows him to see the creatures of the world called 'Youkai'. He meets a ghost called Whisper; who is the guide of the game, similar to Mr.Drippy in Ni No Kuni, allowing Keita to use the watch to its fullest potential.
Using the touch screen on the 3DS the player is able to do a multitude of things; they use it to search for Youkai, catching bugs by using a net, fishing, as well as being able to rotate which ones they are using in battle.
The battle gameplay seems to resemble Jade Cocoon 2's battle system, the player would set numerous creatures in a circle around them of different elements and rotate them to counter something the creatures were strong against.
By using the touch screen as well the player is able to use it to power up their Youkai or perform special skills if the action is done correctly. Such as popping bubbles and wiping away smoke etc.
As a fan of JRPG's and a great fan of both Level 5 and monster training like Pokemon; this game really excites me and I am really looking forward to hearing more about it!
